First Team vs. Lincoln United (3 : 2)
Evo-Stik League First Division South
Sheffield FC returned to winning ways with a 3-2 win against Lincoln United, writes Stuart James, ending a three-match losing run with the new signings taking the headlines.
A brace from new signing Ant Wilson set Sheffield on the way, and skipper Lee Cooksey adding to his impressive scoring tally with the other, with new signing Ryan Tinsley chipping in by assisting on two of the three goals.
The home team opened the scoring on 3 minutes when debutant Ryan Tinsley floated a free-kick into the box, Jake Turner pulled off an excellent save to deny Ant Wilson’s header, however skipper Lee Cooksey was on hand to turn and drive the rebound home.
Club doubled their lead ten minutes later when Wilson capitalised on a half connected back pass from Luke Hinsley, after a long clearance from keeper Danny Haystead, keeping his cool to take the ball round Turner into the empty net.
Four minutes later Lincoln got back into the game, with James Blunden heading a deflected ball into the box across the goal, giving Jack McGovern the easy job of heading into the unguarded goal.
Sheffield all but wrapped up the game when Pat Lindley dug the ball out of midfield, setting Wilson on another run, that ended with a cute chip over the keeper.
United made the final five minutes interesting as substitute Matt Cotton headed home a Gary King corner, ensuring a nail-biting finale.
