First Team vs. Dronfield Town (4 : 3)

Tuesday, 19 July, 2016 - 19:45

Sheffield continued their winning start to pre-season with a 4-3 win, in an entertaining game played in sultry conditions at Dronfield Town’s Stonelow Road Ground on Tuesday night.

On what was the hottest day of the year so far, Club played a different squad in each half once again, with a youthful eleven bolstered by the experienced Lee Cooksey, Hafeez Hamzat and James Gregory.

Sheffield took the lead on 23 minutes, with Mason Barlow scoring yet again, and made it 2-0 through Jahmal Smith on 33 minutes who took the ball around the keeper after good work from Joe Knowles.

The experienced second half side were stunned when Dronfield replied on 49 minutes, however Sheffield looked to have wrapped things up on 61 minutes, after Player-Coach Ollie Ryan tapped home at the third attempt after reacting quickest to a rebound off the crossbar.

Two goals from ex-Clubbie Ryan Ruddiforth looked to have levelled matters in the contest, with a fine curling effort leaving Jamie Green stranded on 71 minutes, and stabbing home a close range one just nine minutes from time.

In a last throw of the dice Sheffield snatched the win in the 87th minute, with Dronfield failing to clear a Rob Ludlam shot, and Ross Goodwin scrambling the ball home from a few yards out.
