First Team vs. Chesterfield (1 : 5)
Sheffield FC kicked off their pre-season campaign with a difficult match against a very strong Chesterfield side, with Martin Allen's Spireites running out expectedly comfortable winners, coasting to a 5-1 victory.
On a baking hot day in Dronfield, Sheffield started the game as worthy opponents against the Vanarama National League side, and more than held their own in the first 15 minutes.
Eventually Chesterfield broke the deadlock, as on 17 minutes Zavon Hines chipped the ball into the middle, with Charlie Carter lashing home from the middle of the box.
The hosts went close a couple of times, with Danny Deakin just firing wide, whilst Matt Roney forced a save from Shwan Jalal, which the Blue returned with interest - breaking up field to force a fine save from Jamie Ingham in the Sheffield goal, with Curtis Weston firing home the rebound.
It took a matter of moments into the second half for the visitors to extend their lead, with Gozie Ugwu tapping in from close range to make it 3-0.
Chesterfield could have increased their lead if not for some cute defending from the home side, as the referee ruled out two goals due to offside flags, with Club holding a solid line.
A fourth came on 76 minutes as Luke Rawson burst down the left wing, sending in the perfect ball, with Joe Rowley whipping home without breaking stride from just inside the area.
Five minutes later the impressive youngster Rawson caused more mayhem down the left, squaring the ball across the face of the goal, giving Rowley the easiest of tap-ins from close range.
Sheffield grabbed a consolation goal five minutes from time, as Waide Fairhurst took advantage of a high offside line and a mix-up in the Chesterfield midfield, to race clear and slot the bal under Joe Anyon.
