First Team vs. Chesterfield (1 : 4)
Sheffield FC kicked off their 2017-18 pre-season campaign with a solid performance on Tuesday, writes Stuart James, however they were no match for a strong Chesterfield first team squad who ran out 4-1 winners.
The Spireites opened the scoring on 15 minutes, when Ian Evatt rose to nod home in the box, following a well-executed free-kick from Connor Dimaio.
Club gave the League Two side a good resistance, forcing the visitors onto the back foot, however the highlight from the hosts came in the form of a superb triple save from keeper Brett Souter who denied Kristian Dennis, Charlie Wakefield and Reece Mitchell to deny Chesterfield.
Ten minutes before the break it was 2-0, as Connor Dimaio turned provider once again, playing the ball through to Kristian Dennis who slotted the ball under the keeper.
It took just three minutes of the second half for Chesterfield to make it 3-0, as Dion Donahue curled a nice effort in from the edge of the area.
Club got a goal back on 55 minutes, as Dylan Parkin and Sam Hird got in a right old mix-up, allowing Jack Mawson the easiest of tap-ins.
Sheffield kept the score respectable with some competitive football, and it took until the 82nd minute for Chesterfield to complete the scoring, with Ricky German tapping home from close range after some good work down the right-hand side.
