First Team vs. Basford United (1 : 2)

Saturday, 23 September, 2017 - 15:00
Evo-Stik League First Division South

Sheffield FC slumped to their fourth defeat on the trot at the Home of Football, as they squandered a lead once again to gift title chasing Basford United all three points.

The home side took the lead on 39 minutes, as Deon Meikle tripped Jack Brownell needlessly just inside the box, with Brownell stepping up to send Saul Deeney the wrong way from the spot.

Basford came back into the game with the introduction of Kieran Wells, and it was Wells who leveled matters on 51 minutes, taking advantage of a mix up between Sheffield keeper Dylan Parkin and skipper Richard Adams to poke the ball into an empty net.

Wells turned supplier four minutes later with an assist, setting up an easy tap-in for James Reid, after some good work on the right wing.

There was one sour note for the visitors, as substitute Rob Duffy saw red for a high and reckless challenge on Club's Ross Goodwin, with referee Bennett having no hesitation.
